quotesThe SGR repeal overwhelmingly passed the House; however, the Senate chose to delay vote until after returning from recess--approximately 2 weeks. The "pay fors" have concerned member so of the Senate. It is important for physicians to continue to let their senators know SGR repeal needs to be completed when the Senate returns. Repeal of SGR will remove a constant source of activity and anxiety in providing care to medicare beneficiaries and allow the innovative payment models , etc to be tested more easily.quotes

quotesThis is welcome news and should be supported. However, there may be resistance in the Senate and among some members as CHIP extension is for 2 years, not 4. Also, the so-called "pay fors" include some beneficiary premium increase and hospital payment reductions. Congress must act in some manner by March 31 to avert a significant cut in the physician fee schedule. quotes

quotesThis is an expected move from medicare and is consistent with activities discussed/proposed by CMMI. While the goal of payment reform is shared by many in the oncology and other communities, the importance of appropriate use of evidence based care and development of incentives is important to success of reimbursement changes. Access for the Medicare population to innovative care is an important component of any reimbursement change.quotes
