The endpoints for a clinical trial as pointed out by this oncology research panel should have meaningful clinical benefit on behalf of the patient. Too often clinical trials are developed for endpoints that have marginal clinical benefit and then the agents used are left to a marketing team to influence physician behavior. This panel is to be applauded for developing a set of guidelines that will set the bar for new therapies. In this era of cost sensitivity, guiding principles such as these are necessary to balance risk and benefit while aligning "value" as an endpoint in delivering therapies.
